Western Suffolk BOCES operates school year and summer school Special Education programs in Dix Hills, Melville, North Babylon and Wheatley Heights.
Education aides assist our students, who range in age from 5 to 21 years. Our aides are caring, patient and nurturing people who provide wide-ranging assistance to students, including, but not limited to: pushing wheelchairs; feeding; hygiene; and behavioral management. Aides may also serve as a key communicator between the student and educational staff. with a variety of tasks throughout the day that relate to education and daily living. Our best candidates love helping children and are energetic and cheerful team players. They are also comfortable standing for extended periods of time; pushing wheelchairs and other assistive transportation devices; and lifting up to 50 pounds. They also need to able to hear clearly and communicate effectively.
We require a high school diploma or its equivalent and while we welcome candidates with experience, it isn’t a prerequisite. All Western Suffolk BOCES employees must be fingerprinted, as per New York State regulation.
