The Western Suffolk BOCES Central Service Technician Program prepares students for a skilled, entry-level position in health care with responsibility for a variety of vital services in health facilities.
A certified Central Service Technician processes and sterilizes surgical instruments in hospitals, surgical centers and other health facilities. The course will help prepare technicians and refresh existing technicians who want to earn certification from the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management. Scientific principles of processing, sterilization, storage, distribution and inventory control of medical and surgical instruments and equipment for the operating room, emergency room and other areas of the hospital or health care facility will be stressed.
