Prepare for Nationally Recognized Certification
A position as a Certified Nurse Assistant opens the door to many other career opportunities in the expanding health care field. Graduates of BOCES’ Nurse Assisting program work in skilled nursing facilities, hospitals, rehabilitation facilities and adult homes where they perform basic nursing functions and procedures relating to personal hygiene, safety, nutrition, exercise, vital signs and communication needs under the supervision of a registered nurse.
Upon successful completion of the BOCES program, which is approved by the New York State Department of Education, a student qualifies to take the Nurse Aide Competency Exam. In order to sit for this examination, candidates must present current government-issued photo ID with signature or current signature ID. Graduates who pass this exam are entitled to work in health care facilities as a CNA and are listed in the NYS registry.

What are the basic requirements to be a Nurse Assistant?
Nurse assistants, sometimes called nursing aides, may need to lift or move patients. Assisting patients requires patience and compassion.
Adults must receive a successful score on the Test of Basic Education (TABE) test. The test covers basic math computation and reading comprehension.
