Western Suffolk BOCES Honors Board Member for 50 Years of Service to Education

Sydney Finkelstein of Elwood was honored by the Western Suffolk BOCES Board of Education on November 30 for his 50 years of service as a Board of Education trustee with the Elwood School District and the Western Suffolk BOCES.

Mr. Finkelstein was first elected to the Elwood Board of Education in 1967. During his tenure with the school district, he served a term as Vice President and was active on a number of committees. He joined the BOCES Board in 1979 and served a term as President.

“Syd Finkelstein is the consummate gentleman and an important and valued trustee,” said Michael Flynn, Chief Operating Officer of Western Suffolk BOCES. “He is intelligent, insightful and is committed to meeting the needs of our diverse student population.”

A World War II Veteran and retired electrical engineer and telecommunications specialist, Mr. Finkelstein received his award at the Annual Board Dinner at Wilson Tech Dix Hills, one of the four Career and Technical Education campuses of Western Suffolk BOCES. He was joined by his wife, Gloria, and daughters, Jill and Cathy.
