Diagnostic Medical Sonography

For a challenging career that offers a wide variety of job opportunities, enter the accredited School of Diagnostic Medical Sonography at Western Suffolk BOCES. Students learn to work with patients and then operate highly specialized equipment that create images to help physicians diagnose medical conditions.

The program’s goals are:

  • To prepare competent entry-level general sonographers in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains.
  • To prepare competent entry-level adult cardiac sonographers in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains.
  • To prepare competent entry-level vascular technologists in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains.

Those who successfully complete this full-time, two-year program qualify to sit for any of five registry examinations in Diagnostic Medical Sonography 60 days prior to graduation.

Classes are held at Wilson Tech’s Northport campus where instructors are experts in the health care field. Enrollment is limited to 25 students per class. Graduates of the program work as diagnostic medical sonographers across the country!
