SST – SUICIDE SAFETY FOR TEACHERS & SCHOOL STAFF *IN PERSON* – 8:30-3:30pm
Suicide Safety for Teachers and School Staff (SST) is a basic awareness training for all school employees to recognize warning signs for suicide, respond appropriately in the moment, and make a warm handoff using the school’s referral process. Participants build confidence with direct, respectful language, clarify do’s/don’ts, and leave with a localized resource pathway so every adult knows their role. The Training of Trainers workshop is designed to certify education professionals as a Suicide Safety for School Staff (SST) Trainer. SST is a program of the Office of Mental Health’s Suicide Prevention Center of New York (OMH SPCNY), and upon completion Trainers will then be expected to sign a trainer contract and conduct the SST training at minimum twice per year to maintain trainer status. Upon successful completion of the workshop, the individual will be certified to facilitate a 60 to 90 minute SST training in-person or virtually. Trainer candidates must attend and participate in the entire session to be eligible for certification. By the end of the training, participants will be able to: -Deliver the SST curriculum with fidelity. -Facilitate SST content on recognizing warning signs,responding appropriately, and making warm handoffs. -Model use of direct, respectful language when addressing suicide risk. -Implement SST trainings in school settings in alignment with trainer expectations. Who Should Attend? Education professionals with prior training experience, preferably on mental health topics ***Important: This Training of Trainers workshop is intended only for individuals who plan to actively deliver the SST training in their school, district, or region. Fee covers continental breakfast and lunch.
