Disciplinary Literacy in History & Social Studies: Reading and Writing Like a Historian Gr 3-8 – 3-hour Workshop facilitated by Alison Leveque, Ph.D. and Dana Carr-Ford, MA, Med – 8:30-11:30am

History and social studies teachers know the challenge: primary sources, textbooks, and competing accounts demand more than general reading skills. They demand that students think like historians, questioning who wrote a text, why, and what it reveals. This workshop gives teachers a repeatable process for helping students source, contextualize, and corroborate what they read, then defend their thinking in short, evidence-based writing that builds toward extended argument. Teachers leave with a toolkit of ready-to-use templates, graphic organizers, and checklists they can apply to their existing curriculum the next day. Eligible for 3 hours CTLE credit. Can use 1-1/2 Consortium seats. If district pays, district approval must be confirmed prior to start of session.
