Reading the Directions, Equations and Evidence: Literacy Strategies for Secondary Math and Science (Grades 7-12) *IN PERSON* facilitated by Jacqueline Darvin, PhD – 8:30-2:30pm
The new Grade 8 NYSED Science Assessment and Science Regents exams, such as Life Science/Biology and Earth and Space Sciences are now entirely literacy based. In secondary math courses, such as Algebra I and II, students are expected to understand complex word problems and explain their computation thinking in writing. This workshop will equip secondary science and math teachers with practical literacy strategies that will help their students comprehend, remember, and demonstrate their learning of science and math content. Participants are asked to please bring a laptop and some current lesson plans/curriculum to the session. Eligible for 6 hours CTLE credit. Can use 1 consortium seat. If district pays, district approval must be confirmed prior to start of session.
