Creating Shared Solutions – A Collaborative Approach to Behavior Support HYBRID Workshop facilitated by PTS Coaching – 8:30-2:30pm
Challenging behaviors can interfere with learning, connection, and overall classroom climate. While educators routinely differentiate academic instruction, behavioral challenges require an equally intentional and skill-based approach. This interactive professional development workshop introduces the Creating Shared Solutions model-a practical, relationship-centered process for supporting students who struggle with emotional regulation, flexibility, and problem-solving. Rather than relying on reward systems or repeated consequences, this session focuses on understanding the ‘why’ behind behavior, building trust, and teaching students how to collaboratively resolve challenges with the adults who support them. Rooted in neurodevelopmental principles and designed for real-world school settings, this model helps reduce conflict while strengthening student capacity, self-regulation, and intrinsic motivation. Key Learning Outcomes -Understand the underlying causes of challenging behavior through a neurodevelopmental lens -Distinguish between willful noncompliance and lagging skills in emotional regulation, flexibility, and problem-solving -Use a structured, step-by-step collaborative process to identify unsolved problems and create sustainable solutions -Promote perspective-taking, emotional awareness, and student advocacy skills -Reinforce self-regulation without escalating conflict or relying on external reward systems -Build trust and strengthen adult-student relationships to support long-term behavioral growth -Develop actionable strategies that can be applied in classrooms, counseling settings, and home-school collaboration Eligible for 6 hours CTLE credit. Can use 1 consortium seat. If district pays, district approved must be confirmed prior to start of session.
