Helping Students At Risk for Suicide *IN PERSON* – 8:30-3:30pm
This six-hour workshop was developed through a collaboration of the NYSASP, SPCNY, and Alberti Center for Bullying Abuse Prevention. HSAR is a six-hour workshop designed to strengthen school-based processes, skills, and protocols for supporting students at risk for suicide. Participants build practical knowledge and tools to assist students experiencing suicidal thoughts or behaviors, understand the importance of pre-planning and standardized intervention procedures, and recognize the value of collaboration and shared decision-making among school mental health professionals, community providers, students, and families. The workshop also reviews best-practice documentation return to school procedures, and prepares schools to implement consistent, effective intervention protocols. By the end of the training, participants will be able to: -Utilize a best practice process to assist students having suicidal thoughts or behavior. -Illustrate the need for pre-planning and standardized procedures for helping students at risk for suicide. -Explain the importance of collaboration and shared decision making in managing students atrisk for suicide. -Apply skills during practice with suicide assessment and safety planning tools. Who Should Attend? School administrators, school health and mental health professionals, school counselors, nurses, community providers, and others who may be involved in prevention initiatives. Fee covers continental breakfast and lunch.
Six (6) continuing education (CE) credit hours are available for LMSW, LCSW, LMHC, and NYS Certified School Psychologists upon completion of course.
