NEW YORK AT 250: THEME 5 Unfinished Revolutions: Exploring the Tapestry of NY *IN PERSON* facilitated by Dana Brown – 8:30-11:30am

October 28 @ 8:30 am - 11:30 am

This workshop is designed to help classroom and special area teachers maximize collaboration opportunities centered around NY 250 and the Tapestry of NY. In addition to a virtual presentation of the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation’s Revisit the Revolution traveling exhibition, we will read Faith Ringgold’s We Came to America, connect to the Tapestry of NY that is used to showcase student artwork, engage in self-portraiture, explore the NYS Personal History Initiative, and get tips on telling a great story, along with storytelling prompts and printables. We will also gather book discussion guides on unfinished revolutions (I.e. women’s suffrage; disability rights), and look at resources for voter registration. Through PBS Media, we will explore placing civics into story time for our youngest readers. Colleagues are encouraged to attend together to discuss and plan collaboratively! Target Audience: PK-12 Social Studies Teachers; Librarians; Art Teachers; English/ENL Teachers Eligible for 3 hours CTLE credit. If district pays, district approval must be confirmed prior to start of session.
