NEW YORK AT 250: USING THE NYS LIBRARY RESOURCE GUIDE IN THE SCHOOLS – Theme 4 – We The People – 3-Hour VIRTUAL Session facilitated by Dana Brown – 12-3pm

How exciting! The 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence – the formal founding document of the United States which led to the American Revolution, is on July 4, 2026! New York State will formally commemorate the 250 or the Semiquincentennial, through the year 2033. The NYS Library Resource Guide is chock full of resources to help us impact our curriculum and bring this living history to our students. Join Dana Brown, former Social Studies, ELA & School Library Director, in this series to delve into these resources across the curriculum by theme. NEW YORK AT 250: THEME 4 – WE THE PEOPLE In this session, we will link family history to our Revolutionary War studies, engage in a tasting history of a historical era or specific cuisine, discuss Tasting Days and Instagram photos, create the format for Community Cookbooks and Cookbook Clubs, as well as research the feeding of the American Revolution. The political symbolism of tea and chocolate to the patriotic significance of massive celebratory cakes and cheeses through American Cookery will be researched, inclusive of STEAM activities to create replicas of these symbols. Downloadable founding documents for Community Reading Events will also be reviewed.
