Portrait of a Future Graduate: Middle-Level Leadership for the New NYS Graduation Standards 3-hour Workshop *IN PERSON* facilitated by Michele Burget – 11:30-2:30pm

January 12, 2027 @ 11:30 am - 2:30 pm

Target Audience: Middle School Principals, Assistant Principals, Department Chairs, Instructional Coaches, and Grades 5-8 The New York State Education Department’s NY Inspires roadmap sets a transformational course toward competency-based graduation requirements organized around the New York State Portrait of a Graduate. While current graduation requirements remain in place during the initial rollout, middle school educators serve as the critical launchpad: sixth graders in 2026-27 represent the very first cohort required to demonstrate proficiency under these new standards upon graduation. Rather than treating the Portrait as a high school exit checklist, this half-day introductory session provides middle-level leaders and teachers with clear, timely guidance on state policy changes and an opportunity to collaborate and share ideas for implementation. Participants will unpack the six POG attributes examine the multiyear phase-in timeline, and explore foundational classroom shifts that foster student agency and real-world readiness across grades 5-8. Eligible for 3 hours CTLE credit. Can use 1/2 consortium seat. If district pays, district approval must be confirmed prior to start of session.
