Starting at the Sentence Level Making Sense of Content Through Writing Gr 6-12 *IN PERSON* presented by Jessica Gruttola – 8:30-2:30pm
Audience: 6-12, Teachers, Instructional CoachesThis interactive workshop introduces participants to the “Hochman Method” explored in the popular text “The Writing Revolution”. Participants will have opportunities for reflection on current classroom practices and how the Hochman Method may be used to increase student writing and critical thinking skills in all content areas. The Hochman Method strategy emphasizes the importance of explicit teaching of sentence structure, grammar rules, and vocabulary acquisition. These components are vital for effective communication and critical thinking, which are essential skills for success in any field. Participants will leave with an individual action plan to implement within their classrooms.Training objectives:-Participants will reflect on the use of writing to improve content comprehension-Participants will explore the Hochman activities and the impact they have on content comprehension-Discuss strategies, participate in activities, and apply newly gained knowledge to improve student understanding of content areasEligible for 6 hours CTLE credit. Can use 1 consortium seat. If district pays, district approval must be confirmed prior to start of session.
