The Blueprint for English Language Learners and Using Scaffolds and Strategies For Student Success VIRTUAL 3-hour Workshop facilitated by Pamela Solomon – 11:30-2:30pm

December 10 @ 11:30 am - 2:30 pm

Participants will explore the eight principles of the Blueprint for English Language Learners Success developed by New York State and examine how these principles can guide effective instruction for English Language Learners (ELLs) across grade levels and content areas. The session will focus on understanding the linguistic, academic, and instructional needs of ELLs and creating classroom environments that promote meaningful participation and academic success. Participants will also examine practical strategies for scaffolding and adapting lessons to make grade-level content more accessible to ELLs while maintaining high expectations. Through examples and interactive activities, participants will explore the use of visuals, modeling, explicit vocabulary instruction, sentence frames, graphic organizers, collaborative learning, questioning techniques, and opportunities for speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Emphasis will be placed on gradually removing scaffolds as students develop greater independence and linguistic proficiency. The workshop will provide participants with practical strategies they can immediately implement in their classrooms to strengthen comprehension, develop academic language, increase student engagement, and support ELLs in accessing rigorous content alongside their peers. Eligible for 3 hours CTLE credit. If district pays, district approval must be confirmed prior to start of session.
