Understanding the Multi-Dimensional Nature of Reading Comprehension, Gr. 3-8 3-hour Workshop *IN PERSON* facilitated by Alison Leveque, Ph.D. and Kinjal Nicholls, MA – 8:30-11:30am

Reading comprehension isn’t one skill. It’s a web of interacting processes, and content area teachers navigate that complexity every time they hand a student a text. This workshop breaks down the research on how students construct meaning from text and turns it into strategies teachers can use right away: -explicit vocabulary routines like the Frayer Model, -text structure instruction for narrative and expository writing, and -comprehension boosters like gist statements and Question-Answer Relationships (QAR). Teachers walk away with concrete tools for embedding literacy support directly into the texts they already teach, no ELA background required. Eligible for 3 hours CTLE credit. Can use 1-1/2 Consortium seats. If district pays, district approval must be confirmed prior to start of session.
