From Conflict to Connection: Transforming Discipline Through Restorative Practices *IN PERSON* facilitated by Wendy Braxton – 8:30-2:30pm

Discussing Restorative Practices offer educators a practical approach to strengthening relationships, building belonging, and responding to student behavior in ways that promote dignity, accountability, and mutual concern. This professional development explores how a restorative mindset can shift discipline and difficult conversations from a focus on punishment toward understanding harm, repairing relationships, and creating pathways forward. Participants will examine strategies such as restorative questions, affective statements, and restorative conversations that can be used in everyday interactions with students. Through reflection and practical examples, educators will consider how language, empathy, and intentional relationship-building can influence classroom climate and student engagement. Participants will leave with strategies they can immediately incorporate into their classrooms and school communities to foster a culture of empathy, inclusion, and accountability. Learning Outcomes: -Identify the key principles of restorative practices and how they support positive relationships, belonging, and accountability. -Apply restorative questions, affective statements, and other communication strategies to respond to challenging student behaviors and conflicts. -Develop approaches for repairing harm and strengthening classroom and school communities through empathy, dignity, and mutual concern. Audience: Grades 7-12 Eligible for 6 hours CTLE credit. Can use 1 consortium seat. If district pays, district approval must be confirmed prior to start of session.
