Strategies to Assist Entering and Emerging ELLs to Achieve Academic Success VIRTUAL 3-hour Workshop facilitated by Pamela Solomon – 11:30-2:30pm
Participants will examine practical strategies and instructional techniques to support Entering and Emerging English Language Learners (ELLs) as they develop the academic language and content knowledge needed to participate successfully in the mainstream classroom. The session will explore how second language development impacts students’ ability to understand academic vocabulary, directions, classroom discussions, grade-level texts, and content-specific concepts. Participants will learn how to scaffold instruction through the use of visuals, modeling, gestures, realia, graphic organizers, sentence frames, word banks, and structured opportunities for speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Eligible for 3 hours CTLE credit. If district pays, district approval must be confirmed prior to start of session.
