Why CRSE Matters: Creating Classrooms Where Every Student Belongs *IN PERSON* facilitated by Wendy Braxton – 8:30-2:30pm

What is the purpose of the New York Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education (CRSE) Framework, and what does it mean for our everyday classroom practice? This workshop explores how CRSE helps educators create learning environments where every student feels seen, heard, respected, and valued while recognizing students’ cultures, identities, experiences, and strengths as assets for learning. Participants will examine the connection between welcoming and affirming environments, student voice, inclusive curriculum, and high expectations and rigorous instruction. Teachers will explore practical strategies for translating the CRSE Framework from a document into meaningful classroom experiences that promote belonging, engagement, and academic success. Participants will leave with actionable ideas for continuing their CRSE journey and creating classrooms where all students have opportunities to thrive. Learning Outcomes: -Explain the purpose of the CRSE Framework and how it supports equitable and inclusive educational experiences for all students. -Identify classroom practices that promote belonging, student voice, inclusivity, and meaningful connections to students’ cultures and experiences. -Develop practical next steps for applying CRSE principles to daily instruction, curriculum, classroom environment, and student engagement. Audience: 6-12 Eligible for 6 hours CTLE credit. Can use 1 consortium seat. If district pays, district approval must be confirmed prior to start of session.
